Functions of cell membrane


-The cell membrane being selectively permeable
-It controls the entry and exit of substances into and out of the cell
-It helps to maintain the balance of organic and inorganic substances
-The plasma membrane enables separate compartments to be formed inside cells, in which specialized metabolic processes can occur.
-It also protects the internal structures of the cell
-It gives rigidity to the cell and also confers on the cell some sort of support.
-Cell membrane also acts as the site of some chemical reactions and receptors site for hormone recognition, neuro transmitter and some chemicals.
-Surface secretions of the cell membrane helps to keep the individual cells of he organism together.
