What is mitosis?

Mitosis

-Is a cell division in which the cell divides longitudinally and duplicates itself, forming two daughter cells.
-The cells receive precisely the same number and size of chromosomes as the original parent cell.
-Mitosis occurs during the growth of organisms
-E.g in the development of fertilized egg into an adult human being.
-Mitosis is the basis of asexual reproduction.
-It’s divided into four stages: prophase , metaphase, anaphase and telophase.
-The entire process takes about an hour and is followed by a resting stage called ‘interphase’.
-One of the best place in which mitosis occurs is the tip of a growing root (such as young bean roots)
