ANEUPLOIDY: what is Aneuploidy?

-This is also known as non-disjunction or chromosomal anomaly (also called aberration)
-This is when half the daughter cells produced has an extra chromosome (n+1), (2n+1)
-While the other half has a chromosome missing out i.e either (n-1), (2n-1), or otherwise
-This is as a result of the failure of a pair(s) of homologous chromosomes to separate after synapses at 1 of meiosis i.e both sets of chromosomes pass to the same pole of the cell
-This may lead to the formation of genetic cells containing either one or more chromosomes or cells with one or more cells deficient or too few during anaphase II
