DIAGNOSTIC FEATURES OF PHYLUM CHORDATA

-They are coelomate and bilaterally symmetrical
-Possession of notochord
-Presence of two  pairs  of limbs: fore limb and hind limbs
-Possession of a ventral heart in which  blood flows forward ventrally and backward dorsally
-Complete digestive system with mouth and anus present
-Double circulatory system is present i.e the pulmonary and systemic circulation
-Pharyngeal slits or cleft is also present although it disappears at a later adult stage
-Internal fertilization is present in some members while external fertilization is present in some e.g toad
-They possess a dorsal spinal cord which is housed in the vertebral column/backbone
-Example include fish (pisces), -Amphioxus (cephalochordates), lizard (reptilia), etc.
