Narrate the story of how Lazarus was raised from death

  • Lazarus of Bethany, brother to Mary and Martha, was ill. 
  • His sisters sent message to inform Jesus that Lazarus whom he loved was ill. 
  • Jesus said that the illness would not end in death, rather, it was to
    glorify God. 
  • Jesus stayed two days longer when he heard of what happened. 
  • Jesus then informed his disciples that Lazarus had fallen asleep, 
  • He
    said that he was going to wake him up. 
  • The disciples said that if he had
    fallen asleep, then he would be alright. 
  • They did not understand the
    expression as being dead. 
  • Jesus told them that Lazarus was dead. 
  • Thomas called on his fellow disciples that they should go with Jesus to die
    with him. 
  • Lazarus had been in the tomb for four days before Jesus arrived. 
  • Jesus had come to console Mary and Martha. 
  • Martha met Jesus and said,
    “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died. 
  • Jesus
    told her that her brother would rise again. 
  • Martha said that would be on
    the day of resurrection. 
  • Jesus said that he was the resurrection and the
    life. 
  • Anybody who believed in Jesus, though he died yet shall live. 
  • Jesus asked if Martha believed what he said about himself. 
  • Martha said
    that she believed Jesus as the Christ, the son of God. 
  • Martha called Mary
    who said to Jesus “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have
    died. 
  • When Jesus saw her weeping, he was moved and asked of where Lazarus
    was laid. 
  • It was shown to Jesus and he wept. 
  • Jesus ordered that the
    stone at the mouth of the tomb should be rolled off. 
  • Jesus thanked God for
    answered prayers. 
  • He called out Lazarus in a loud voice and the dead man
    came out alive. 
  • Many of the Jews who had come with Mary believed, 

Lesson:

  1. Believers in Jesus shall live for ever, 
  2. Jesus is resurrection
    and life, 
  3. Jesus has ultimate power over death, 
  4. Jesus is concerned
    about the well-being of man.
